Important Update
The FDA has removed semaglutide and tirzepatide from its drug shortage list. This regulatory change has important implications for how these medications are accessed and prescribed. With the shortages officially resolved, compounded versions of semaglutide and tirzepatide are no longer broadly permitted. These alternatives can now only be prescribed when a patient has a specific medical need that prevents the use of FDA-approved, branded medications. Tirzepatide is FDA-approved in its branded forms: Mounjaro® and Zepbound®, manufactured by Eli Lilly & Company. Semaglutide is FDA-approved as Ozempic® and Wegovy®, manufactured by Novo Nordisk. It’s important to note that compounded versions are not affiliated with these companies or their products.
