Seborrheic Keratosis

Seborrheic Keratosis

Remove those waxy, raised growths beautifully.

Seborrheic keratoses are the common, harmless, wart-like growths many of us collect with age. At Renew MedSpa in Eagan, we remove raised seborrheic keratoses comfortably in a single visit with our Mole and Skin Tag Removal, leaving the skin smooth with no scarring for most people.

Seborrheic keratosis is a common, benign, non-cancerous skin growth that often appears as a raised, waxy, wart-like bump. They can be tan, brown, or black, and they tend to look like they were stuck onto the skin. While they can look concerning, they are harmless and do not require treatment unless they bother you.

They are completely benign, so removing them is purely cosmetic, and we can do it beautifully.

If a growth catches on clothing, gets irritated, or simply bothers you cosmetically, it can be removed. The good news is that raised seborrheic keratoses respond beautifully to our Mole and Skin Tag Removal, a comfortable, single-visit treatment that smooths them away without surgery, stitches, or scarring.

Understanding It

What seborrheic keratosis looks like

How to recognize it

  • Raised, wart-like bumps, slightly elevated off the skin.
  • Waxy or scaly texture, often looking stuck on.
  • Color from light tan to dark brown or black.
  • Oval or round shape, from small to over an inch.
  • Usually painless, though they can itch or catch on clothing.

Why they form, and where

The exact cause is not fully known, but they are linked to aging, sun exposure, and genetics. They tend to show up on sun-exposed areas, and they often run in families, so if you are developing them, relatives likely have them too.

They commonly appear on the face, chest, back, shoulders, and scalp, and can develop almost anywhere except the palms and soles. They also tend to increase in number and size over the years.

The Star Treatment

Mole & Skin Tag Removal

For raised seborrheic keratoses, our Mole and Skin Tag Removal is the ideal treatment. It uses a Plasma Pen device to deliver controlled plasma energy to each growth, gently shrinking and flattening it so the skin around it can smooth back over.

It is comfortable, precise, and done in a single visit. We numb the area completely with prescription-strength cream first, then treat as many growths as we can in a focused session. Treated spots form small scabs that fall away on their own, about 5 to 7 days on the face, and roughly twice that on the body. There are no stitches and no surgery, and because the treatment is so precise, most people heal with no scarring.

Why Mole & Skin Tag Removal for seborrheic keratosis

  • Ideal for raised, waxy growths
  • Comfortable, with prescription-strength numbing
  • Single visit, treating multiple growths in one session
  • No surgery and no stitches
  • Precise treatment that heals with no scarring for most people
How It Works

Three simple steps, one visit

01

Numb

We apply a prescription-strength topical numbing cream and let it work for about 30 minutes, so the treatment stays comfortable.

02

Treat

Using the Plasma Pen, we treat as many growths as we can within a focused 30-minute window, working precisely growth by growth.

03

Heal

Treated spots form small scabs that fall away on their own, about 5 to 7 days on the face and roughly twice that on the body. We send you home with simple aftercare.

A Complementary Option

For flatter, more pigmented spots

The Plasma Pen is the right tool for raised growths. For flatter, more pigmented seborrheic keratoses, or to address surrounding sun damage, we sometimes add or combine other options. We will recommend the right approach at your visit.

IPL Photofacial

IPL can help reduce the pigment in some seborrheic keratoses, though it does not remove the thickened or raised growth itself. For some people, we combine IPL with Mole and Skin Tag Removal for the best overall result.

An Important Safety Note

We only remove growths that are clearly benign

Seborrheic keratosis is completely benign and poses no health risk. But it is important to know that it is different from actinic keratosis, a pre-cancerous lesion, and that occasionally a more serious growth, including a melanoma, can resemble an ordinary spot.

For that reason, our removal is a cosmetic treatment for growths that are already known to be harmless. It is not a diagnostic service, and we do not send tissue for pathology. If anything about a spot looks irregular, has changed in size, shape, or color, bleeds, or simply raises a question, we will pause and refer you to a dermatologist before doing anything. That step protects you, and we will never skip it.

If you have a spot you are worried about, please see a dermatologist first. Once a growth has been confirmed harmless, we are glad to help you remove it.

Myth vs. Fact

Clearing up seborrheic keratosis myths

Myth

A new growth means skin cancer

Fact

Seborrheic keratoses are benign and very common with age. That said, because some serious growths can look similar, anything that looks irregular or is changing should be checked by a dermatologist. When in doubt, we refer.

Myth

Removing one stops new ones from forming

Fact

Removal is cosmetic and treats the growths you have. It does not prevent new ones, since genetics and sun exposure drive them. Many people simply return to remove new growths as they appear.

Myth

You need surgery to remove them

Fact

For raised growths, our Mole and Skin Tag Removal is a comfortable, in-office treatment with no stitches and minimal downtime. Surgery is rarely necessary for cosmetic removal of benign growths.

Myth

Picking or scratching them off works

Fact

Picking risks bleeding, infection, and scarring, and the growth usually returns. Professional removal is safer, cleaner, and far more likely to leave smooth skin behind.

Questions, Answered

Seborrheic keratosis FAQ

No, seborrheic keratoses are completely benign and pose no health risk. They are one of the most common skin growths with age. The important caveat is that some serious growths can resemble them, so anything irregular or changing should be evaluated by a dermatologist. We only remove growths that are clearly benign.

For raised growths, we use our Mole and Skin Tag Removal. After numbing the area, the Plasma Pen device gently shrinks and flattens each growth in a single visit. Treated spots scab and fall away on their own over the following days.

We apply a prescription-strength numbing cream for about 30 minutes first, so the treatment stays comfortable. Most people feel little more than a light warmth or tingling during the session.

The treatment is precise and gentle, and most people heal with no scarring. Healing varies from person to person, and we will review what to expect for your skin and your specific growths at your visit.

A growth that is removed is gone, but removal does not prevent new seborrheic keratoses from forming elsewhere, since genetics and sun exposure drive them. Many people return to remove new growths as they appear over time.

With a free consultation. We confirm the growths are benign, talk through your goals, and remove what is appropriate, often at the same visit. If a spot looks irregular, we will refer you to a dermatologist first. Book your consultation here.
