Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

How it works

IPL technology uses broad-spectrum light to target specific chromophores in the skin, such as melanin or hemoglobin, and delivers energy at different wavelengths to address numerous aesthetic and dermatology needs. During an IPL treatment, pulses of light energy are delivered onto the skin and safely target the imperfections in the skin. A snapping sensation and warmth is felt with each pulse, which is typically very well tolerated. The treatment does not injure the surrounding skin, which means there is no down time.

After a Treatment

After treatment, patients leave with a mild red, flushed appearance, which resolves within a few hours. For pigmented skin, the treated pigmented area will darken, fade, and then flake off within 1 to 2 weeks. Patients report minimal discomfort with the procedure, and there is no recovery or downtime required. Your improved complexion will be visible within 1 to 3 weeks post treatment.

How many treatments are needed?

For optimal results, a series of 3 treatments spaced 1 month apart is recommended. Some individuals may require more treatments.

Contraindications

• Active cold sores or genital herpes. Antiviral medication should be taken 1 week prior to treatment and 1 week after treatment.
• Accutane use within 6 months of treatment
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• Permanent makeup or tattoos in the treatment area
• Current fresh tan or use of tanning cream. Tan must be 4-6 weeks old before treatment and 14 days post tanning cream.

Results

Results include visible improvement in skin tone and texture, even complexion, and a youthful and healthy glow. For acne treatments, acne dries up and breakouts are lessened.
